January is a time of rest, relaxation, and reinvention—so right now is the perfect moment to bring a rescue dog into your life, and give them a wonderful home.
Our animal shelter and rescue partners, who work hard all year ‘round to find great homes for great dogs, have sent us a few deserving sweeties for your consideration.
We want to help set these guys up for success in their new lives, so whoever adopts each of the dogs below in the next calendar month will receive their first box of The Farmer’s Dog for free.
Additionally, they’ll receive $300 toward their fresh food subscription (See the Terms & Conditions below, which also include simple instructions on how to redeem the box and credit).
Now, let’s meet some good dogs.

Scarlett
North Country Animal League in Morrisville, VT
Approximate age: 11 months
Approximate weight: 36 pounds
North Country Animal League (NCAL) transported Scarlett up from Birmingham, Alabama on New Year’s Eve, and she’s been charming the staff ever since.
Three words come up when discussing Scarlett: “Playful,” “cuddly,” and especially “quirky.” She’s earned the latter description because when she goes for walks she likes to stay low to the ground as if she’s on a “secret mission,” according to Molly Burnett, the rescue’s Community Engagement and Events Coordinator. All the better to sniff that way, apparently. She’s the kind of dog that will make her person smile every day, Burnett added. If you would like to adopt Scarlett, fill out an application at NCAL.

Bella
Shore Saves Animal Rescue in Farmingdale, NJ
Approximate age: 6 years
Approximate weight: 60 pounds
“Bella is the kind of dog who quietly steals your heart and then refuses to give it back,” Sarah Fine, one of the founders of Shore Saves, told Digest.
Fine remembers the day Bella came in more than two years ago. She was found wearing a pink raincoat with her name on it—and she’s been “patiently waiting” ever since for her next chapter. In that time, Bella has become a volunteer favorite. She has a whole fan club—and once you meet her, it’s easy to see why.
“Bella is incredibly smart and loves to work with her people,” Fine said. She knows her commands, is leash-trained and housetrained, enjoys learning, and “clearly takes pride in doing things ‘right’.” She’s affectionate and calm, and seems happiest curled up with her people.
At about six years old and 60 pounds, Bella is past the puppy chaos but still full of life—smart, loving, loyal, and ready to be someone’s forever dog.

Annie
Ace of Hearts Dog Rescue in Beverly Hills, CA
Approximate age: 5 years
Approximate weight: 45 pounds
Annie puts a smile on the face of everyone she meets with her endearing cross-eyed gaze, said Charlotte Zerouni at Ace of Hearts Dog Rescue. She described Annie, who has been waiting for her forever family for about two years, as the “perfect mix of sweet and spunky.”
“This spayed female is a true social butterfly,” Zerouni said. Annie is playful, affectionate, friendly, and a strong learner. She’s a good fit for a household that will give her structure. Due to her vision impairment, she’d benefit from a calmer environment that she can navigate with confidence.
If you would like to adopt Annie, email aofhcoordinator@gmail.com or visit Annie’s adoption profile.
